Specimens of epizootic agents (Ordinance on epizootics) may only be sent to the Institute for Viral Diseases and Immune Prophylaxis or to institutions having a permit to handle such pathogens (Vademecum IVI).
Import: Import permit from the Federal Veterinary Office for infectious material pathogenic to animals (cultures, laboratory specimens of animal pathogens etc.), FVO import and export requirements for animals and animal products.
Export: by the terms and conditions approved by the competent authority of the importing country.
Export permits (SECO export permit form) from SECO
are necessary for pathogens which could be used as biological weapons (SECO list of animal pathogens IC352), if their value exceed 1000 Swiss francs.
